Spelling Shed and Home Learning Update

Spelling Shed and Update on Home Learning

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this finds you well and you and your families enjoyed a good half term break.

Please read on to learn about some changes to Home Learning going forward.

Spelling Shed

We are pleased to share with you an exciting development in our spelling curriculum. Following review of our current approach, evaluation of potential options and a successful INSET day of training and preparation at the end of September, we have introduced Spelling Shed to enhance the teaching and learning of this important area.

Further information on Spelling Shed is available by clicking this link.

Building on this, we are extending Spelling Shed to Home Learning to further support children in developing their spelling skills. Pleasingly, the Spelling Shed home learning platform offers a more interesting and engaging way to practice spelling, similar to that provided by TT Rockstars.

Key Details:

  • Log-in Information: Your child will bring home their Spelling Shed login details this week, which will be securely stuck into their reading record. Please keep this login safe, as it will be needed each week for home learning activities. Click on this link to take you to the online login page. (No Charge) Alternatively, download the dedicated app from your App store. (Small Charge)
  • Weekly Practice: Each week, children will be expected to complete 10 spelling games on Spelling Shed. These games are designed to reinforce the spelling patterns and words they are learning in class, supporting consistency between school and home.
  • Additional Exploration: After completing their 10 assigned games, children are welcome to explore other areas of the website if they wish to continue their practice.
  • Trial Period: This first week is a trial period for everyone to adjust to the new system. Please encourage your child to communicate with their class teacher if they encounter any challenges or need help logging in.

We hope this new approach will be engaging and effective in supporting children’s learning. Thank you for your cooperation and encouragement at home as we begin using Spelling Shed.

Updated Home Learning Expectation

As we have introduced Spelling Shed into our Home Learning offer, we have reviewed all our Home Learning to ensure it remains purposeful, enjoyable and manageable within a busy family’s week.

The following remains the same:

  • Reading five times a week and recording this in the Reading Record
  • Completing TT Rockstars sessions each week

The addition is:

  • Completing Spelling Shed sessions each week

The adaptations are:

  • Atom Prime will now alternate between Grammar and Maths on a week-by-week basis. Reading comprehension is no longer included as this is covered by the Reading Record activity.
  • Our Priory Puzzle will have fewer compulsory tasks (demarcated by the DUE IN date) and more optional activities for children to choose from.

We hope, with the above, Spelling Shed will fit smoothly into your Home Learning routine and children will continue to benefit from a wide range of activities to support their understanding of what is being taught at school and encourage them to become lifelong learners.

The introduction of Spelling Shed alongside other improvements and introductions such as the Virtual Reality headsets, once again demonstrate the commitment of Reigate Priory to offer the best and most current learning provision and experiences, ensuring your child’s learning continues to be Brought to Life, Inside and Out.

Regards

Mr Moses
